Connecting small scale star formation with the dynamics of the galactic disk
Numerical work of small-scale star formation shows that the star formation process, in particular the formation of high-mass stars, strongly depends on the initial conditions. In turn, stars influence their environment by means of protostellar outflows, winds, radiation and finally supernova explosions, and thus have an impact on the dynamics of the Galactic disk. I present how the initial conditions influence the star formation process and how stellar outflows and radiation change the surroundings. Then I focus on our attempt to simulate the full lifecycle of a molecular cloud in a slab of the Galactic disk from the beginning of the star formation process in a molecular cloud to its destruction by stellar feedback.
